Project: BARAA PRIMARY SCHOOL - ARUSHA, TANZANIA
iThemba Foundation was founded by a number of enthusiastic professionals who wanted to contribute to development projects in Africa but did not feel much for large organisations with high internal costs.
iThemba is unique: all working costs of our Foundation are personally borne by the members of the board. So no costs of administration, travel, expenses … are being paid with your contribution! That way, every single euro you donate integrally benefits those who need it.
After a careful analysis of and a preliminary visit to the project, iThemba started with the building and renovation of the BARAA PRIMARY SCHOOL in Arusha, Tanzania, with the generous support of Het Landgoed Development and Walther Van Hoof Real Estate.
10.300 schoolbooks and 270 school desks were bought, 68 toilets were built, as well as 4 new class rooms, a library and a teacher’s room. A start was taken with the provision of piping and tubing for water and electricity, the renovation of 6 old classrooms and the building of a teacher’s hostel.
The realisations related to the construction and the renovation of the classes and the toilets have been made possible in cooperation with the King Baudouin Foundation. Visit their website at http://www.kbs-frb.be.
But there is more to be done! In 2010, iThemba will start up a child sponsorship program for 1474 pupils to ensure their education and in doing so working towards a structural solution to Arusha’s problems. All children need daily food and a substantial improvement of their hygienic and medical condition. The teachers themselves are in need for additional training ; they have only been in school until the age of 16.
For a mere 7 euro per month, you can give a child a chance to a better future. The child sponsorship programme will soon be put into effect. You will read more about it on our website soon.
