SATURDAY 5 DECEMBER 2009 FROM 14.00 H IN MORTSEL: First 'Open Castle-day' in support of iThemba !
You would like to support a good cause, but have little faith in large organisations with too high ‘internal costs’? Then the unique development project in Africa that Walter Van Hoof Real Estate and Het Landgoed Development have initiated together with some young enthusiastic entrepreneurs, surely is something for you. The project involves (re)building and renovating an old primary school near Arusha, Tanzania. All costs of the building and renovation operations, the installation of sanitary provisions, the purchase of school furniture and schoolbooks were already borne by the main sponsors. You, however, can contribute to the cost of education and development of the children by placing a bid on one of the exclusive artworks made by the children of Arusha during iThemba’s Open-Castle-day. You can also support an individual child’s education through our Child Sponsorship program for a mere 7 € per month. Please do read about this in our iThemba information leaflet.
Where? Saturday 5 DECEMBER 2009 from 14.00 h
Where? Cantecroy Castle, Cantecroylaan, 2640 Mortsel, Belgium
Please register before 30 November 2009 by sending an e-mail toinfo@vastgoedvanhoof.be or by calling +32 (0)3 449 25 00
7 March 2009: first iThemba gala-night
On 7 March 2009, iThemba organised it’s first (but certainly not it’s last!) gala-night in A Mano restaurant in Rumst. No less than 107 guests registered for the gala to support the Vlakteplaas-school. After a stylish aperitive, the guests were invited to enjoy a succulent three course menu accompanied by – of course – South African wines.
The tables were named after some of the Vlakteplaas-children. During diner, there was a continuous projection of photo’s of the school project and of the logo’s of our corporate sponsors.
After coffee: party-time! Live band BLUF kicked of with a broad repertoire of covers and their own material. Then DJ KOEBRA took over and had everyone on their tables until way past midnight.
The gala raised more than €3500,00 euro !
14 June 2008: second huge iThemba street party with BBQ / braai in Kontich
The second edition of iThemba’s street party proved to be even more successful than the first one. The number of participants was more than we could have hoped for and a nice amount was raised to support the Vlakteplaas-school. Please click here for some images.
As last year, djembé band Esengo from Schoten got the musical side started with its African rythms. Later on, DJ KOEBRA kept everyone dancing into the early hours…
A novelty was that the kids could go wild in a blow up castle and have their faces painted by friendly neighbour Nancy.
iThemba wants to say a special ‘thank you’ to the large team of volunteers (friends, family, neighbours and colleagues) who got up really early to get everything organised in time for the party (tents, tables and chairs etc…). Their help during the braai and the clean-up afterwards was also much appreciated.
Do regularly check our agenda: there will certainly be a third edition in 2009!
8 April 2008: second ABSOC quiz to the benefit of the Vlakteplaas-school
For the second year in a row, Antwerp student association ABSOC (Lessius Business School) dedicated the final round of their quiz competition to iThemba’s projects. As always, many students and supporters participated and drank quite a lot of Belgian beers – only to support the Vlakteplaas-school of course! After the quiz, the ABSOC board handed over a cheque of €500,00 to the iThemba members. Thank you once more, ABSOC!
1 December 2007: iThemba wine tasting
iThemba organised, with the kind support and cooperation of wineshop ‘Wijnschuur Oud-Antwerpen’ in Brasschaat, a wine-degustation. Many participants enjoyed a very broad selection of South-African wines and delicious finger-food. The admission fees and part of the revenue of the wine sales went – as usually – entirely to the Vlakteplaas-school.
9 June 2007: iThemba street party
9 June 2007: iThemba street party
On Saturday 9 June 2007, the Flemish village of Kontich partied! iThemba welcomed around 250 supporters to a fun street party in the Kleine Meylstraat. iThemba raised funds for the Vlakteplaas-project through a wine and champagne sale and a huge barbecue or ‘braai’.
The party proved a real success, not only by the mere number of attendants, but also because of the super atmosphere, thanks to djembé-band ‘Esengo’ from Schoten who spiced up the party with their exotic rhythms. Even the weather Gods were favourable…
Everything went absolutely perfect, thanks to the efforts of many friends an neighbours. The result was something to be proud of: a total net revenue of approx. €3000,00. This money will integrally be used for the organisation of a crèche/day nursery for the youngest kids at the Vlakteplaas.
18 APRIL 2007: ABSOC-quiz to the benefit of iThemba
Antwerp’s ABSOC student association (Lessius Business School) was so kind to dedicate the Final of their annual quiz competition to iThemba’s Vlakteplaas-project. As always, there was a large attendance for the quiz which was just as educational as amusing. ABSOC’s board donated the total revenue of this quiz night + a personal contribution to iThemba. The result: a nice cheque of €1000,00 for the Vlakteplaas-school. Thank you straight from all of our hearts, ABSOC!
